Richard “Rick” M. McKinley, Jr., 78, of Ceresco, NE, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at his home in Ceresco, NE. He was born January 27, 1941 in Meyersdale, PA to Richard and Ruth (Wenzel) McKinley. Rick attended high school in Meyersdale, PA. Following high school Rick enlisted in into the U.S. Air Force. On March 6, 1965, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Bergman at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Ithaca, NE. After serving in the U.S. Air Force for 8 years Rick started a career with the U.S. Air National Guard. He retired from the National Guard in 1991 after 25 years of service.
Rick was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Ceresco American Legion Post #244, Disabled American Veterans and a lifetime member of the Enlisted Association. He managed the Ceresco Senior Center for several years. Rick enjoyed golfing, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren. Rick was an active member of his community, a loving family man and a treasurer of many organizations.
He is survived by wife of 54 years, Marilyn McKinley; daughters, Cathy (Dave) Hartshorn of Ceresco and Rhonda (Patrick “Rick”) Duensing of Geneva, NE; grandchildren, Tim Hartshorn, Jennifer (Andrew) Crees, Michael (Missy) Hartshorn, Jordan (Jess) Duensing, Hannah (Brady) Romans; great-grandchildren, Joel and Brennen Crees, June and Lyla Hartshorn, Joey Duensing and Lucy Romans; brother, Les McKinley of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Ruth McKinley; sister, Lynn Smith.
Marilyn, I am so sorry to hear of Rick’s passing. Thoughts and prayers going to each and everyone of your family.
Marilyn and family, So sorry to hear of your and our loss! True friend and a real doer in our community, church, senior citizens, legion and whatever he was a part of. We are in Colorado and feel so bad that we won’t be able to be at the funeral. So appreciated all of your business through the years. I’m so sorry for the loss of your Grandfather. Hannah, you shared some very happy stories with me this morning. It’s obvious he was a wonderful man and you were all lucky to have each other. I know it’s hard but do your best to remember those happy times that brought a smile to your face. To all of you, please take care of each other during this difficult time.
Mac was truly one of the nicest guys we ever had the pleasure to meet. We always enjoyed seeing him at the golf courses and thoroughly enjoyed talking and joking around with him.

So sorry for the loss of my friend for over 50 years. I remember all the military conferences that we went to with Rita and Marilyn.
My condolences to the family. I worked with Mac at the NEANG for a lot of years. We were in different shops but we were good friends.
I had the pleasure to go on some deployments with Mac and we always had a good time. I’m sure he will be sadly missed by a lot of people he helped over the years.

My condolences to the family. Like many others, I had the honor to have worked with Mac at the base and a bonus play many rounds of golf with kind and caring man. I am so sorry to hear about Rick’s passing. I always enjoyed visiting with him at the Senior Center or when he came to Wahoo to pick up the meals. He was a great guy and he will be missed.
