Stephen “Steve” C. Sallenbach, 68 of Wahoo, NE passed away Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE.   He was born March 7, 1953 in Lincoln, NE to Norman and Hollie (Craig) Sallenbach.  Steve graduated from Bellevue High School in 1971 and the University of Nebraska Lincoln in 1975 where he earned a degree in Accounting with a minor in Economics.   He was united in marriage to Traci Greiner August 21, 1976.  From this union two children were born, Jason and Keeli.

Steve began his banking career in Omaha, Nebraska—working for two banks prior to joining FirstBank of Nebraska in 1986 as controller. He was named president and CEO in 1991 and as of 2021 was serving as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Steve was actively involved in the Wahoo community, sharing his time and talents with a number of organizations over the years, including: Saunders County Economic Development Foundation, Greater Wahoo Development Foundation, Wahoo Community Foundation, Wahoo Lions Club, Wahoo Chamber of Commerce, Wahoo City Council Advisory Board, Wahoo Area Parks & Recreation, Wahoo Library Foundation, Wahoo Investment Club, Wahoo Building & Grounds Committee and Wahoo Mayor’s Facilities Committee.

In his free time Steve enjoyed building cars, racing micro midgets and trucks, riding motorcycles & ATVs and playing racquetball.

Steve is survived by his children, Jason Sallenbach; Keeli Sallenbach; mother, Hollie Sallenbach; sisters, Julie Bernady, Pamela (Steve) Tadlock; girlfriend, Patti Styskal; former wife, Traci Sallenbach; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Norman Sallenbach, brother, Scott Sallenbach; infant brother, Robbie Sallenbach and grandparents.

    Very sorry to hear about Steve’s passing. I really enjoyed working with him for a few years right after he started at First National. He will be missed by a lot of folks.
